bad karma

a few of my friends have asked me about the tall redhead. i'll admit that i haven't blogged that date yet because it was too sad. let's call him bad karma (coming back to bite me in the ass).

i meet bad karma near what will be my new neighbourhood in a couple months (he is offering to take me to a cool hangout in the new hood). i am first struck by butterflies (ha! they do exist, shifty eyes) because for the first time i'm actually immediately attracted to a match date. we have coffee and easy conversation for the next 2 and a half hours. he's not totally ginger (for my british friends out there), he has brown hair with a reddish tint. and he has amazing blue-green eyes. on leaving the date, i tell him that i would really like to see him again. he mirrors the sentiment, or so he says.

i receive the official rejection a week later. he says that he is seeing someone else from match and that relationship is moving from casual to serious. he also says "i'm sure someone as interesting and attractive as you will have no problem finding love in your new neighbourhood." very sweet, though i don't know if he is just a nice, polite boy whose mother taught him to let girls down easy.

so he shall be dubbed bad karma. i think he may just be nature's revenge on me for rejecting so many dates. and i'm mad at nature for it.

butterflies

something that old shifty eyes threw at me has been sticking in my mind. i let him down easy. i told him that although we had a lot in common and always had a good time together, i just didn't feel any butterflies. hello mcfly: this is my nice way of saying that i am not attracted to you. anyway, he said something like "fair enough, we're all entitled to our own feelings." then later he said something like "are you sure we aren't just too old for butterflies? are you sure that isn't just something that happens to teenagers?"

first i told him that if that is true, then we might as well just all jump off a bridge now. then i told him that i do believe they still exist; i still get excited about stupid work crushes and tall redheads (*sigh*). i mean, come on, we're not 80 years old. it's not time to settle for companionship just because of common interests. how depressing.

confusion

busy weekend - asked limp wrists if he was gay outright, kinda ended things with old shifty eyes, and hooked up with one of them. i'll let you guess which one...

yawn

so on to date four with shifty eyes. when i arrive at the restaurant (the requisite 1-2 minutes after the said time), i do not see him outside. i wait around for a little bit, but then i decide to just take a peek inside. and i see him at a table. is this as weird to anyone else as it seems to me? don't you wait for your date before seating yourself? oh well, i enter the restaurant. the dinner is good, and this time he pays (which he indicates that he is going to do since he planned the evening this time.)

may i describe the outfit? now i know that this particular thing can be helped...but...oh my. pleated light khaki corduroys with a sweater tucked in. ?? and a his fedora that frankly looks too small since it sits so high on his head. i mean, i actually really like hats, but this one, i'm not too sure. and the worst thing is that i think he really made an effort.

ok, clothing aside, the evening is mostly enjoyable. we go to harvey's comedy club, which was funny. it was not funny, however, when he was talking loudly about how he could be a stand up comedian or at least write for one, and the whole line waiting for the club was giving him dirty looks. doesn't everyone like a comedian that tells intelligent (slightly pretentious) jokes that are higher brow than most of the crowd? um...at this point i'm just hoping no one tries to kick his ass. anyway, the show was funny, several drinks are downed, and he asks if he can kiss me goodnight. i tell him that i'm feeling a bit indecisive, but he goes for it. and to be honest, i'm still feeling quite indecisive. i was hoping that this 4th date would help me determine the side of the fence on which i'm residing, but it didn't. *sigh*

killer date 3

so i haven't made it past 3 dates with any of these guys yet. and now we are approaching date 3 with shifty. he wants to see pan's labyrinth, which i'm quite keen to see as well. we meet at a coffee shop beforehand, and he actually offers to pick up the tab this time! not sure why there has been a change of heart, but he continues on to pay for the snacks and the movie. since i just bought a condo and i can see poverty in my near future, i'm certainly not going to stop him.

the movie is fantastic, the conversation before and after is still good, but i'm in that familiar place of "do i actually like this guy?". i guess i'm interested enough to see how this plays out, but i just wish there were some initial chemistry with some of these guys. ugh.

his latest email is that he wants to go on a "real live actual date" and he jokes about romantic undertones. i certainly hope i know if i'm interested after date #4.
